Volunteering with Chesterfield Sling Library

Every helper at every CSL session is there as a volunteer. Consultants, peer-supporters (aka Demonstrating volunteers), helpers, none of us are paid for our time. We do it because, hand on heart, we love sharing our experience and knowledge with each and every parent/carer who walks through the door and helping to make their journey that little bit easier.

Sometimes, the lovely people who attend the Library sessions want to get involved and volunteer with us. Yes please, you’re all welcome… Here’s how it works…

Stage 1: You commit to attending one of our sessions on a regular basis. Initially you help with setup and tidyup, meet&greet, make people welcome, cuddle babies and make drinks. You spend time observing and learning from the demonstrating volunteers and consultants. If you would like to, you can learn the admin side of things as well.

Stage 2: Once you’re in to the swing of attending at least one regular session you might want to progress to being a Demonstrating volunteer. This involves attending a 1-day externally run course; our preferred trainer is Lorette Michallon at Slingababy. If there are enough of you (6 or so) we can arrange for Lorette to run a course in Chesterfield, if not you may have to travel to attend the course. CSL will subsidise 50% of the course fee for regular volunteers.

As a Demonstrating volunteer you will ALWAYS have the support of a Consultant volunteer for those times when you feel the need to check what you’re doing with someone else, or if you feel out of your comfort zone.

If you want to know more, please ask.
